چکیده

A total of one thousand and eighty (1080) unsexed day-old quail chicks with an average initial weight 7.68±0.39g were used in a feeding trial to determine the growth response fed iso-nitrogenous rations various dietary energy levels Nigerian (tropical) environment. Six (26% CP) diets containing 2500, 2600, 2700, 2800, 2900 3000 Kcal/kg ME complete randomized design, respectively for study. The birds feed water ad libitum 6 weeks at end which 10 from each replicate randomly selected carcass analysis. There significant (P<0.05) differences final live weight, gain, cost per gain age 1 egg across treatments. Feed, intake decreased non-significantly (P>0.05) as level increased diets. Total protein, Haemoglobin, packed cell volume, red blood white non significantly affected by treatments within normal range quails. cholesterol however, increased. Except abdominal fat, parameters not It was concluded that 2800 ME, will be adequate optimum performance under condition this experiment

Transition of hemoglobin between two tertiary conformations: The transition constant differs significantly for the major and minor hemoglobins of the Japanese quail (Cortunix cortunix japonica).

We demonstrate that 5,5'-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoate) - DTNB - reacts with only CysF9[93]beta and CysB5[23]beta among the multiple sulfhydryl groups of the major and minor hemoglobins of the Japanese quail (Cortunix cortunix japonica). K(equ), the equilibrium constant for the reaction, does not differ very significantly between the two hemoglobins. It decreases 430-fold between pH approximately 5...

The effect of parental age and egg weight on fertility, hatchability and day-old chick weight of Japanese quail (Cortunix cortunix japonica)

The study was carried out to determine the effects of the parental age and egg weight of Japanese quail on the weight of one day old chick, fertility and hatchability of incubated eggs. Three hundred and sixty Japanese quail eggs were obtained from 22 and 36 weeks old quails. The eggs were weighed and grouped into 2 categories: Light (7.5-9.5g) and Heavy (9.6 – 12g). The weight of the chicks we...

Response to Selection for Body Weight in Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

The present studyinvestigated the impact of selection for body weight (BW) on productive performance, predicted BW and genetic improvement of related traits in Japanese quail. Base population, selected parent and F1 progeny were tested. Pens and cages were used for rearing and breeding. A total of 240 birds in two successive generations, 27 sires and 54 dams (as selected parents) were used. Bod...

Nutrient digestibility and serum biochemistry of laying quails (Cortunix cortunix japonica) fed sugarcane scrapping meal-based diets supplemented with exogenous enzyme

The study was carried out to investigate the effect of Maxigrain enzyme supplementation of sugarcane scrapping meal-based diets on the nutrient digestibility and serum biochemical variables of laying Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) in ant 8 week experiment. Six experimental diets tagged T100, T10100, T10200, T150, T15100 and T15200 were formulated to be isonitrogenous (20%CP) and i...

Divergent selection for four-week body weight in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica): response to selection and realized heritability

The Japanese quail has been utilized as a research species in establishing the genetic relationships that may also be present in other species. Divergent phenotypic selection for 4-wk BW was conducted for three generations in high (HW) and low (LW) lines. Within each line, 50 females and 25 males were selected among 600 birds, based on 4-wk BW. Mean BW at 4 wk of age in the base generation was ...
